How Do I Create An Auto-Responder?

If you wish to create an email auto-responder that goes to the person who filled out your form or to a customer of yours, you're in the right place.

If you wish to create a lead alert that goes to you, use
this guide.

How to create an auto-responder

To create an auto-responder, we'll use Zapier.

Zapier is an integrations provider with a generous free plan, and will allow plenty of flexibility in creating our auto-responder.

1.) Open up alerts & integrations in Growform

To get started, open your form and navigate to "Edit form settings", followed by "Alerts & integrations":

Scroll down and hit one of the Zapier links, or "Click here to get started on Zapier".

2.) Accept the Growform beta invite

The Growform Zapier is relatively new (but well-tested), so is still in beta. Hit the orange "Accept beta invite and build a zap" button:

3.) Make a Zap

Hit "Make a Zap" or "Make a new Zap" on Zapier:

4.) Choose Growform as your trigger in Zapier

Search "Growform" and choose us under "Choose App & event".

Hit "Continue" when you're ready

5.) Link your Growform account in Zapier

Hit "Sign into Growform" on the next step. You can find your API key here.

Continue through the steps and choose the form you want to act as the trigger:

6.) Make sure you have data in your form

At this point, Zapier will ask Growform if there are any entries to display.

If your form doesn't have any leads yet, we recommend submitting a test lead (you can do this by navigating to your form in Growform and hitting "Preview form".

Once you've submitted a test lead, hit "Test trigger"in Zapier and you'll see your most recent lead details appear:

7.) Choose "Email by Zapier"

Next, search for email and choose "Email by Zapier" to get to Zapier's email sending integration:

You should set the action event to "Send outbound email" before hitting "Continue".

8.) Configure your email in Zapier

Now, you can configure your email using a mix of hardcoded text and merge fields.

In the following example, we'll email the person who submitted the lead an email receipt. If you wanted to use Zapier to send emails to a customer, just add their email address in the "To" field instead:

9.) Save your Zap

Finally, hit "Save and test", and don't forget to turn on your Zap - and you're done!

10.) Read this!

Zapier works by hitting our servers every 15 minutes and asking "Do you have any more leads?". Therefore, it's normal and expected behaviour that emails will take between 1 minute and 15 minutes to send.

Zapier do have professional plans starting from $49 per month that allow polling every 2 minutes rather than 15 minutes.

We are also working on native email integrations, which will allow instant emails to be sent in Q2 2021.
